# Palestinian statistical record — research and verification report

Review date: **12 October 2026**. This is the latest source review, not a common measurement date.

The page contains **114 records across 27 sections**, including **79 newly added records**. All **35 original cards** retain their prior values in record history and the immutable September 19 archive. The earlier maternal/newborn cohort panel is also preserved. The live production data was retrieved before publication and matched that archive.

## Scope and method

Research prioritizes OCHA, UN agencies, the Gaza Ministry of Health, PCBS, prisoners’ institutions and specialist monitoring organizations. Reported figures are attributed, not presented as independently adjudicated facts. Every card has a source, period and geographic scope, except the explicitly unverified former return-waitlist estimate. Dates and caveats are available in compact expandable source rows. No new visualizations were added.

This is a substantial expansion, not a claim that every requested statistic has a comprehensive current series. Missing means not verified in this review, not zero and not proof that no dataset exists. Numbers from different methods or periods are not added together. Dated older observations remain when no newer comparable value was verified.

## What changed

Existing figures updated or clarified include deaths, injuries, functioning health facilities, patients awaiting evacuation, medical evacuation, malnutrition admissions, education, current detention, administrative detention, detained children and unlawful-combatant detention. Disability scope, return periods and the unsourced return-waitlist estimate were corrected. The table below records the exact before/after values; unchanged values retain their dated observation.

## Editorial conflicts and limitations

- Evacuation: WHO’s 24 September approximate cumulative count (12,400) is below the earlier 12,913 reported by WAFA on 11 August. Both observations are preserved; no arithmetic trend is inferred. The 3,385 since-ceasefire figure uses a separate OCHA snapshot.

- Disability: the old 33,000 figure is a State of Palestine statement about possible disability cases, with Gaza-only scope unclear. Its wording and scope are corrected; the separate WHO 853-case observation is not treated as a compatible subset.

- Education: UNICEF’s current appeal gives 658,000+ out of school in Gaza; its West Bank summary gives 140,000 facing barriers while its body refers to 84,000 affected students. No reconciliation or shared cutoff is assumed.

- UNESCO: the detailed current assessment sums to 164 damaged Gaza sites, while another heading still says 153. Damage is not automatically destruction.

- Detention: Addameer’s October release says about 9,265 prisoners while its PDF rounds to 9,300. The unlawful-combatant category includes non-Palestinians and incomplete military-camp coverage. Addameer’s 92 custody deaths include 53 from Gaza, while OHCHR’s earlier 92 include 56 from Gaza. No reconciled geographic subtotal is published.

- Settler attacks: OCHA’s updated annual series has 1,836 in 2025; Peace Now’s annual review uses 1,828. The page uses OCHA consistently. Peace Now’s farming-outpost text also differs between its introduction and body, so no farm-specific annual outpost count is shown.

- Unemployment: PCBS’s annual report gives 31.4% for 2024, while its homepage has 31.3%. The historical table uses the annual report. The latest card uses Q2 2026 (27.9%); quarterly and annual rates are kept separate.

- People awaiting return: the original 115,000 was unsourced. The record and original number remain in the archive, but the active card says Not verified. Preservation does not establish that the number is true.

- Returns: the earlier comparison implied a since-October-2023 cumulative return count. The verified 6,000 is for the period since the October 2025 ceasefire; its window is corrected without claiming a full-period total.

- Pregnancy and neonatal mortality: the preserved UNRWA cohort is historical (October 2023–June 2024). Pregnancy-related deaths per pregnancies cannot be relabelled as the standard maternal mortality ratio per live births.

## Historical comparisons and calculations

- West Bank deaths since 7 October 2023 through August 2026: 308 + 499 + 322 = 1,129. Injuries: 4,003 + 3,126 + 5,927 = 13,056. Both are derived from non-overlapping periods in the same OCHA snapshot.
- Settler attacks since 7 October 2023 through August 2026: 6,199 minus 863 pre-October incidents = 5,336. The 2026 daily average is 1,623 / 243 calendar days = 6.7. These cover incidents causing casualties and/or property damage.
- Land units: 10 dunams = 1 hectare. Formal declarations and de facto farm control are separate measures.
- Historical tables cover annual and monthly West Bank casualties, annual settler attacks and annual unemployment. Annual displacement, demolitions, settlement stocks, administrative detention, child arrests, movement barriers and poverty need harmonized series before trends can be added. Partial years are not full-year comparisons.

## Additional consequences audit

Beyond headline deaths and injuries, this review adds communicable-disease consultations, laboratory destruction, life-altering injuries, parental loss, psychosocial needs, cultural damage, gender-based violence service reports, food affordability, aid reductions caused by funding, permit denials, farm access and young graduates’ unemployment. Remaining cross-cutting gaps include missing persons, long-term rehabilitation access, chronic disease treatment, environmental contamination, household debt, disrupted civil registration and family reunification. None is assigned an unsupported total.

## Coverage still requiring further research

The section-level gaps above cover the requested thirteen research areas. In particular, full-period age/sex and occupational casualty breakdowns, unique raid totals and operation-specific arrests, detailed settler asset damage, repeated displacement, current territorial poverty, current healthcare attacks, education staff losses, West Bank heritage damage, comprehensive reproductive-health outcomes, and detention conditions lack a complete verified series here. East Jerusalem is explicitly included where a source includes it; separate figures are only shown where available. Named incidents and selected weekly observations do not stand for territory-wide totals.

## Source and link audit

Sources were inspected through their websites, indexed primary-source text and PDF extraction; core OCHA statistical PDFs were also visually inspected. Automated HTTP checks measure reachability, not factual accuracy. A successful HTTP response can still be a challenge page. Some sites block automated requests or redirect repeatedly; their links are retained when indexed source content supports the record.

## Supporting graphics

Following the expansion, 27 records gained a compact Graphic link beside Source & details. The links open OCHA’s original PDF infographics in a new tab: the 30 September Gaza impact snapshot (13 records), the West Bank August snapshot (8 records), and the settler violence map through August (6 records). The same links also appear where those records are repeated in the overview. Each is matched to the card’s measure and period; derived totals are explained in the source details. No graphic is attached to the newer Gaza headline casualty totals using the older September snapshot. These are publisher infographics, not independently verified photographic evidence. No video was added.

## Maintenance and quality improvements

Keep an immutable snapshot before each update, record changed definitions as well as values, and rebuild both the HTML fallback and the JSON-backed view together. Geographic tags are prepared for future filters; no filter interface was added in this phase. A compact future “changed since last review” option would help returning readers without adding height to every card.

Browser validation passed at 1440, 768, 390 and 320 pixels with no horizontal overflow, script errors or missing assets. Section jumps and source disclosures work. The HTML fallback preserves all 114 records plus six overview cards when JSON refresh is invalid. All ten existing internal site-navigation destinations returned HTTP 200. Detailed results are saved locally in research/validation.json. The page retains a readable HTML fallback if JSON refresh fails. The publication scope excludes News and its independent archive/removal ledger.
